Saturday NightNotesI wrote a song called Jivemania for a Band I was in in the 80's called Ol'55... it was a kinda rockabilly thing with guitars, so I pinched that intro lick from Jivemania, did the Monday to Friday thing (yes I know, I'm not the first) and there it was... a great little Louis Jordan kind of jump song. A band called "The Bar Kings" recorded it and Bruce Iglauer from Alligator Records really liked it and that's when I thought, "hey I've got a recording studio, why don't I write more songs, send them over to Bruce and he might get one of his artists to record it and I'll be rich & famous... well rich & anonymous... but it was the rich part that I liked!" So I did and after completing about 12 songs, I realised I has a CD and that I needed a band to play these songs live. I'd known John for 25 years and had played with him semi-regularly as his drummer, so being mates we always figured we'd play in a band together some day down the track, we are, but we didn't realise that I'd be on guitar. So that's the birth of Mississippi Shakedown..!! We play this very often live and get the audience to do the Monday to Friday bit... always goes down well.
